90 days, indeterminate — Another great variety from heirloom tomato collector Craig LeHoullier. Beautiful bi-colored, large (sixteen to twenty ounces) fruits with some ribbing at the shoulders. Juicy, fruity, similar in flavor to 'Little Lucky'. Although it shares the same pedigree as 'Little Lucky', with the help of Craig's local gardening friend, Larry Bohs, it has been stabilized and selected for oblate shape and larger size. A 2004 Victory Seed Company introduction.

Rosella Purple - $3

The image looked great, I needed a good "purple", they are rare (cool), and a dwarf variety that would be great for containers. Then I planted them, which is when I got really excited.  Every one of the seeds I started grew into perfect, stocky little seedlings, very short but tough. Joe Pesci, in a Tomato! 
These are my most anticipated this year.

I had to pay double for these seeds so I had to increase the price on this variety, but they will be worth it!.

75 days, tree-type — This was a Victory Seed Company introduction for 2011 and one of the dwarf varieties from the "Dwarf Tomato Project." Similar to 'Cherokee Purple' in color, size, shape and flavor but on a dwarf growing plant. Regular leaf, dark green rugose foliage, stout central stem, grows to three to four feet in height. Perfect for a large container or a small garden space. The fruits are oblate, ranging from six to twelve ounces, and ripen to a deep purple-pink color. Flavor is full, intense, balanced and delicious. 'Rosella Purple' originated from a cross between 'Budai' (a small red fruited dwarf) and 'Stump of the World', made in 2006 by Patrina Nuske Small in Australia. A subsequent selection discovered by Craig LeHoullier led to 'Rosella Purple'. Now in its ninth generation, it is a quite stable open-pollinated variety but still may produce the occasional off-type plant.

Livingston's Paragon

The history of this one is what got me.

75 days, indeterminate — Released in 1870, this was Livingston's first release, a product of careful selection and stabilization. It was claimed to be the first perfectly uniform, smooth tomato ever introduced to the United States and possibly the world. The fruit are blood red, or glossy deep red. They ripen between early and late varieties, is vigorous, and has heavy foliage. Said to"endure early frosts longer . . ."

55 days, determinate — Bred by Dr. James R. Baggett of Oregon State University and perfectly suited for the Maritime Northwest. Golden colored, globular, one inch, cherry-type fruit, early, compact plant with a potential for a high percentage of seedless fruit.

80 days, indeterminate — A really nice beefsteak type tomato with fruits are five inches in diameter by four inches deep, weigh one pound or more and remain green colored at maturity. Sweet juicy flesh, refreshing spicy flavor. This family heirloom was introduced to the general public by Ruby Arnold of Greenville, Tennessee.

80 days, indeterminate - 4" plum tomato with exquisite flavor suggestive of a black. Attractive purple-black fruits are meaty and wonderful for slicing, salads and sauces. Heirloom variety from the Ukraine. Very good, reliable producer.

Cherokee Chocolate

Intriguing variation on one of my all time favorite tomatoes, the Cherokee Purple.
I just had to give this one a try.

80 days, indeterminate — Sets fruit that are the same size as 'Cherokee Purple' but the color dark crimson red with shoulders that are brownish-black. It appears to be a stable skin color mutation of 'Cherokee Purple'. Excellent flavor and flesh texture. Sweet, slightly tart, firm but very juicy flesh. Nice slicer. A variety that originated in the garden of heirloom tomato collector Craig LeHoullier and was introduced to the general public by the Victory Seed Company in 2004.

Saucy

The "roma" paste tomato for this year, not super exciting, but there's gotta be one.

85 days, determinate — Bred and introduced by Dr. James R. Baggett of Oregon State University in 1993. It is an early maturing paste-type tomato. The plants are very compact producing blocky, plum shaped fruits with solid flesh (very few seeds). They are easy to pick and peel and keep well both on and off of the plant.

90 days, indeterminate — This is a very old late-seasoned, wilt-resistant beefsteak variety. The fruits are large, fourteen to sixteen ounce, deeply ribbed, irregular, bright scarlet, juicy, yet solid and very prolific. Nice balance of tart and sweet. A real nice slicing tomato.

Royal Red Cherry

My red cherry/grape tomato choice for the year.

70 days, indeterminate — Not only a beautiful fruit, the taste is equal to that of a good red tomato. The plants have heavy foliage with abundant yields. The fruits are nearly perfectly globe shaped, brilliant red, and weigh in the two to three ounce range. Although it is not the Livingston's 'Royal Red' that I was seeking, it is a pleasant find.

Kellogg's Breakfast

85 days, indeterminate — 'Kellogg's Breakfast' produces huge (up to twenty ounces), oblate shaped, beefsteak-type, orange fruit, with a wonderful flavor. This old family heirloom was preserved by gardener Darrell Kellogg of Redford, Michigan. In her 1999 book entitled, "100 Heirloom Tomatoes for the American Gardener," Carolyn Male has this to say, "There isn't another large orange beefsteak variety that I'd rather grow that Kellogg's Breakfast. The whopping taste of this mighty tomato is truly unequaled, and it's juicy and meaty at the same time."

Hello All,
Welcome to another year of homegrown tomatoes!
I chose all my varieties this year from the Victory Seed Company in Oregon. They are a family owned company that prides themselves on preserving heirloom and open pollenated varieties of seeds. 
I have 10 varieties this year and tried to get a good assortment of my favorite styles of tomatoes and some with a little more "story." Happy Picking!

P.S.  Apparently I have a problem... 
I just couldn't resist and added two more varieties of tomatoes and 3 varieties of hot peppers (1 standard and 2 frightening) which I got from the Whatcom Seed Company. I don't have a good excuse.
But do I really need one?

I did Jalepenos last year but just had to venture off into uncharted, frightening waters as well.

The Ghost pepper is 200 times spicier than the Jalepeno and the Trinidad Scorpion is twice as spicy as the Ghost!

Use extreme caution when handling these little fellas.The use of gloves is recommend when picking.

By far, America's most popular chili. Dark green, turning red at maturity. The dried and smoked Jalapeno is called "Chipotle," which has also become popular. There are several varieties of Jalapeno. While all Jalapenos are relatively mild as far as hot peppers go, this is the Jalapeno "Hot" variety, about 5,000 Scovilles (10,000 when made into Chipotle). 70 days
